about

1979 explores Kiyanosh's perspective towards his home country, Iran, and the norms, customs and beliefs of Iranian citizens, specifically his family. Through his conversation with his cousin, as well as his introspection regarding his families wellbeing and state of mind, Kiyanosh questions the validity of many of Iran's practices and beliefs in an attempt to shed light on the issues of his country, while acknowledging that religion and faith in God can often be beautiful, specifically in the case of his grandma. 1979 was the year in which The Iranian Revolution came to an end, and a pivotal time in Iran's history.

lyrics

1979

First Verse:

Couple weeks back in Iran I was speaking to my cousin
When small talk was all fought we spoke what was and wasn't
I asked him why he never studies, said "cause i ain't worth shit"
I said where did you learn this? I mean nobody perfect
But why you think you can't progress
He said "Brother you have been blessed
You got the freedom we can't dream of, we're trapped and they won't free us
You see us, this ain't no kick back
This shit wack it's all a big trap, you think over here you could spit raps?"
I said i'm a student, he said "You stupid? So am i!"
Not a student of the schools, I'm a student of the mind
Tryna find how you have been trained to learn to hate yourself?
And belittle all your talent to slowly cremate yourself?
I'll admit, I got more than a bit more than you do
But that don't change the fact that you think poor, it's crucial
To your turmoil, fuck your government, let them burn oil
Focus on yourself, be true to you or die in perjury
It's self-love, empathy and balance as the tertiary
And a whole lot of shit in between
Some perspective make you skeptic that you too could live the dream
But you can Bobby, you can live the dream brother!
When you feel your nation hates you always know that we love ya
Always know my thoughts with you, and all you have to live through
Focus on loving your self when nothing uplifts you
I love you man and I can't stand to see another victim
Of the system, brother stay persistent, for the greater good
Fuck anyone who never say you could
You can escape this state of mind, the revolution made em blind
Maybe before that, either way our people can't afford that
The revolution pollution or evolution?
The former if you ask me, ain't nobody surpass me
My confidence is the only reason I'm doing this
Question it all, know the power of your influences
And this god damn government
Bobby please stop suffering
Bobby please stop suffering..

Pre-Chorus:

In 1979 when freedom of speech was dying
Imagine living a place where speaking your soul is crime
x2

Chorus:

Can you help my cousin? Can you please save my family?
Tryna learn the art of heart, please don't examine me
Hard to keep the sanity when I know what they go through
19 years of living and I still don't really know you
And i still don't really know you
I don't know, I don't know

Second Verse:

I've learn that language ain't essential, it's all about the energy
Don't let the media and history decide your enemies
I've got a tendency to question everything they're telling me
And it's been killing me to know my family ain't feeling me
Even Bobby won't know what the first verse is
Lack of motivation hurts purpose, yeah they cursed us
My mind isn't healthy, my mind isn't wealthy
But there's richness in my heart I only pray that it can help me
Time is everything, more influence than media
Food for thought, stay hungry, no matter what they feeding ya
Granny how do you believe it all? Granny ain't you see it all?
Miseducation didn't make you flee at all
Time is everything, power is influence, revolution successful
Their mouths are silent while their hearts orchestral
Shame, Knowledge is pain, ignorance will reign, right?
Ayatollah is the controller, it's all a game right?
Plain sight showing me a lack of vision right within this nation
Indecision and impatience
But I still love nobody more than my own people
Government wrote the story, but you can write the sequel
I hate religion, but I love my grandma
I hate religion, but I love my grandma
I never had faith in anything I couldn't see
Siav and Maman are my gods and yeah that's good to me
Show more love to each other, less love to this god.
Don't mean no disrespect, this self expression kinda hard
But if he can't accept me, then he is not a god
More like a fraud who applaud your conformity
This mindset won't be forming me, I just want to see you be your best
I'm nothing without you, and without you we can't progress
And If this life is a test, then imma pass for me
Not for God, I just wanna be, I just wanna be free
With the trees and the bees when they bumble
Don't be so egotistical, we just apes in the jungle
Be what you want to be, love while you're alive
They told me music couldn't be a life, well they fucking lied
It's the only reason I survive, the only reason I feel purpose
Without music my life is worthless

Who are you? Do you know yourself?
I hope at least that you know yourself
x2

Outro:

Don't you try to show me what this revolution do to me
I just want more love, I want more you, I want more unity
Please don't try to understand me, and I won't do the same
Accept me and love me just like I love you for what you became
Is our purpose not to be happy? Maybe I been living wrong
Maybe I been crazy all this time but you can sing along

I need you like you need me, I feed you like you feed me
Don't let them divide us, it's a virus, how do you see me?
Please help my people help themselves
Please help my people help themselves

Grandma, how you so religious?
Grandma, how your soul the richest?
197,197, 1979
I see heaven, I see heaven, heaven is a lie
Without you.
